The NTP Board of Directors is chaired by Loyiso Tyabashe and provides strategic leadership, performance oversight, and good governance.
MR LOYISO TYABASHE: NECSA GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD
Mr Loyiso Tyabashe was appointed in January 2021. He is a professional engineer with over 20 years technical and leadership experience in the nuclear industry.
He started his engineering career in the automotive industry where he worked as a Production and a Design Engineer. Thereafter, he joined Eskom’s nuclear business, working in various strategic roles in Engineering, Operations, Maintenance Planning and Execution, Internal Oversight, and Project Management. His final assignment at Eskom was leading the nuclear new build project, a role which also saw him being part of key advisory structures of the South African Government’s nuclear build programme.
In the course of his career, Mr Tyabashe has acquired vast global nuclear experience from the leading international nuclear organisations such as Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through participation in various nuclear programmes.
Mr Tyabashe holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Cape Town (UCT), as well as the Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) qualification from UCT’s Graduate School of Business.
MR THABO TSELANE
NTP GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR
Mr Thabo J. Tselane holds an M.Sc (Nuclear Physics) from the University of the Western Cape. He joined Necsa in March 2014 as Divisional Executive: Nuclear Operations. Over the years, he acquired academic qualification in Project Management, completed a Senior Management Programme with the University of Pretoria. Furthermore, he obtained a Global Development Management Programme at Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
He carried added responsibilities at NECSA such as Acting Group Executive: Corporate Services, as Board of Director at NTP Radioisotopes SOC (one of its subsidiary) and also served as the Acting Managing Director for NTP.
He also worked at BKS Consulting Engineers as a General Manager in Rustenburg and also for DPI-Fike Plastics as Manager. Prior to joining Necsa, he was Senior Executive Manager for Nuclear Compliance Assurance and Enforcement and finally the Interim Chief Executive Officer for the national Nuclear Regulator (NNR). He also served the Vice Chairperson of Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); member of the IAEA’s Radiation Safety Standards Committee (RASSC); Nuclear Safety Standards Committee (NUSSC), and Chairperson of the Southern African Radiation Protection Association (SARPA).
MS PRECIOUS HAWADI
NECSA GROUP CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Ms Precious Hawadi is an experienced Finance Executive with a demonstrated history in the nuclear medical isotopes industry.
She is skilled in Strategy, Budgeting, Risk Management, External Audit, Procurement, Management and Financial Accounting.
Ms Hawadi was previously a Senior Manager at Deloitte where she spent a 10-year career, before joining NTP Radioisotopes as the Group Executive: Finance (CFO).
Her qualifications include: Program for Executive development (PED), Transition to Business leadership (TBL) and Foundation to business leadership (FBL) from the IMD Business School in Lausanne Switzerland. CA (SA) – Designation Chartered Accountant South Africa with SAICA, Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) from the University of Cape Town in association with Gauteng Board Course, BCom Honours Accounting from University of KwaZulu Natal as well as BCom Accounting from the University of Witwatersrand.
MR HILTON LAZARUS
A respected senior level manager and advisor, maintaining a long-standing career of loyal service with the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa [more than 25-years]; Hilton Darryl Lazarus is an accomplished and business-minded Development Finance and Project Management Expert.
Progressing through the ranks from Property Investment Specialist and Business Analyst to Senior Account Manager and ultimately Business Unit Head, Hilton has valuably identified and facilitated multi-billion rand Development Projects across various sectors including; Oil & Gas | Industrial Sectors | Warehousing & Production | Industrial Recycling | and Mining Processing.
As an Executive leader, Hilton champions top-level stakeholder engagement and presentation. In liaising with various Boards, he promotes strategic project initiatives, influences investors [Government & private sector], and advises on best practice initiatives across the following commercial platforms; Industrial & Economic Development | Business Assistance | Business Turnaround | Trade Matters | Sector Analysis & Research | Policy Development [Government Level] | Initiative Funding [Motivation & Structuring] | Project Implementation | Value Adding Client Board Participation [As a Co-Opted Member].
DR MOSIDI MAKGAE
Dr Mosidi Makgae’s experience is within the scientific research and innovation field with particular focus in amongst others, water chemistry, environmental impacts due to mining activities and mine dump rehabilitation. She served on advisory capacity to government and the public on the management of hazardous materials, managing environmental audits as well as conducting environmental impact assessments. Dr Makgae’s competencies include Project Management, expert in energy and minerals, Waste and Water Treatment and Environmental Management.
Dr Makgae previously worked for CSIR, Council for Geoscience (CGS) as well as Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) at South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa). She has managed projects within NLM and Pelindaba Analytical Laboratories (PAL) where she worked as a Nuclear Waste Specialist and developed, reviewed and maintained safety cases for waste processing facilities. She has experience in project planning, scheduling, reporting and cost control at a higher level.
Dr Makgae has a PhD in Environmental Chemistry from Stellenbosch University, MSc Chemistry in Membrane Technology (North West University) as well as BSc Hons (North West University). She has academic experience from the North West and Stellenbosch Universities.
She has served as a Board Member of various state owned entities, and is currently a Managing Director of Geo-Environmental and Technical Services.
